Home Visitation Program
Home Visitation programs provide parenting and social service support to families in the privacy of their home. All of our home visitation programs promote positive parenting, self-reliance and awareness of local agencies and programs.
All residents of Tuscaloosa County may participate in one of the agency’s programs, with some programs requiring a referral from a DHR worker. Home visits usually last 45-90 minutes and are designed to meet the specific needs of that family. Visits may be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on the program and the needs of the family. The Family Support Specialist will work with the family to set Family Goals and provide support and education as the family works to achieve their goals. Family Goals may include: increased knowledge of child development, improving child and/or parent knowledge of stress and anger management skills, development of a realistic family budget, etc.
For new mothers, there is a special program that addresses the challenges of being a new parent and shares activities that will advance the child’s development during the first year of life.
